Given that today’s racing is such a load of rubbish wouldn’t it make sense to hold the Craven meeting today?
We could’ve had the Craven, Nell Gwyn, Free Handicap and Earl of Sefton all run on the same day, increasing attendances at Newmarket at the same time and giving the punters some decent quality racing on a Saturday as well.
It’s a sad state of affairs when a sand meeting is the principal fixture during the Flat Turf season and a bog standard meeting at Haydock is the principal NH fixture.
And if that wasn’t bad enough it’s unforgivable what they’ve done to both Haydock and Kempton over the past few years. They’ve ripped the heart out of both courses.
rob:
Kempton’s Classic trials are meaningless. They could run them at some stage during the week and have the better races for the weekend.
I agree…the racing has been below par this weekend…I always hate it when the flat form is mixed in with all weather, I bet even the horses get confused…and your old mucker D Nicholls has just popped a 20-1 in at Kempton with no excuses given for Fathsta. Hannon also won with his so called 2nd string Pure Poetry at 14-1 although Hughes was on board Sohcahtoa out with the washing this time.
As far as the Craven Meeting is concerned, it has already been condensed into 2 days from 3 over the past years and although I would love to see the Craven and the Nell Gwyn run on the same day, where do they draw the line and they need to create enough interest to get the punters back for a second day for their coorporate entertaining and restaurant bookings to sustain the upkeep of the course.
What I don’t understand is why isn’t the Craven Meeting being televised by Channel 4 Racing…once again the poor old armchair and slippers brigade are being let down…not everyone has At The Races and Racing UK…I’m getting myself down to the races, but not everyone has that opportunity..at least if the Craven Meeting were on a Saturday it would be televised, so perhaps you have a point..Jac x
